Va de Nuevo by Yara Salazar and Marta Hidalgo, is an ongoing eco project recycling leather jackets and clothing using them responsibly by giving second life to the materials, as new useful handbags and messengers.

The new modern products reduce waste and are one of a kind. Va de Nuevo also make purses, wallets, wristlets and even necklaces from leftover recycled leather pieces.

The Smith and Coates children’s collection is made from felted recycled cashmere by Sarah Coates. Adult sweaters are beautifully transformed into stylish kids pieces. Each item is hand embellished with vintage fabric trim and crochet work. A summer line is available too with a range of tops, dresses and trousers made from second hand cotton shirts.

Recycled content quilts from vintage and surplus fabric are perfect for picnics in the park and for children to play upon.

Stella Neptune is a line made exclusively from recycled cashmere. The designs are hand screen print recycled cashmere appliques and hand screen printed refashioned sweaters for kids and women.

Kirsten of Pearl Clothing and Jil Cappuccio both create one of a kind clothing and limited lines of fabulous digs. Both based in Denver Colorado, they are amazing ladies who know how to recycle and refashion vintage clothing and vintage textiles and look good doing it!

Annika Sanders and Kerry Seager established Junky Styling on Brick Lane in London 13 years ago, with the studio behind the shop. Their work consists of one-off ‘wardrobe surgeries’ for customers as well as an internationally stocked ready-to-wear collection. The business idea developed from their experimentation with recycling second-hand clothes into clubwear; being part of the same generation this sounded warmly familiar. Travels through the US and Asia allowed Sanders and Seager to think the business further; San Francisco 15 years ago was particularly inspiring. The customer base is 18-70ish in age, men and women in equal parts.

The primary source material for Junky Styling is men’s tailoring: suits. The fabrics are usually of a high quality (Annika and Kerry steer clear of anything susceptible to a naked flame), and every scrap is accounted for one way or another.

The material for the sleeves was rescued from a wetsuit factory. Otherwise thrown out, this upcycled Nylon Neoprene turns into the perfect padded sleeves. Sleeves are available for phones, ipods, 10″, 13″, 15″, and 17″ computers.

Joodito is a Boston clothing designer, who uses weathered textiles as the raw material for her futuristic aesthetic. Joodito garments are repurposed from salvaged materials with amazing freestyle precision. She calls herself aptly, a ‘retrofuturist’.

Denverite Nina Sampsel is a wizard-ess with reclaimed wool. She whips up fanciful, storybook objects from every form of the recycled textile. Her work can be found at Show of Hands in Cherry Creek Denver, Colorado.

Marcela Muniz and Valeria Hasse of Todo Reciclados craft the most fabulous jewelry from found bits and objects. Their textile jewelry combines doilies, applique pieces, worry dolls, fringes, embroidery, lace and old garments for an exciting and vibrant newness to jewelry with a distinct South American flair.
