Resource Woodworks, a branch of the Center for Resource Conservation in Boulder gathers salvage materials from deconstructed homes that are being remodeled at their Resource Yard.

These treasures are then reworked to make fine ‘resourced’ furnishings, lighting and garden accessories (planters shown here). Shawn Hovin head of RW, works magic into each new piece that can rival any overpriced version found at trendy retailers. So much character lives in each new piece, and this non profit is really doing the Boulder Valley a wonderful service by not allowing precious resources to go to waste.

Shawn and his team do some fantastic custom work too, so if you are remodeling your home and would love something ecological and unique, go in and visit them.

The Upholstery Shop Company of Lyons Colorado, refurbishes old wooden furniture and restores upholstery for commercial and residential applications. Love that red sofa!

The Rhode Island designer/craftsman, Jamison Sellers salvages old wooden pallets, turning them into furniture and shelving that are modern and textural. The many colored scrap wood gives a modern take to recycling. Materials he incorporates into each piece would otherwise be destined for the fireplace or landfill.

Sellers is mindful of environmental responsibility and additionally uses only natural finishes, free of VOCs and solvents.

Stripe Design Group has some very inspiring reupholstered mid century modern furniture. Love the lines of the pieces paired with the bold graphics of the fabrics.

The very fresh and bold take on recycled furniture by The Divine Chair Company gives vintage Victorian style furniture some major zing! Their bright colors would give a revitalizing shock of  modern design to any space.

This weekend I toured the Rino Art Safari in Denver, a glimpse of open studios in the River North Art District. It was easy to hit up the bigger warehouses that had several artist in them like the Dry Ice Factory, Ironton Studios and the Wazee Union. The highlight of the show (even though it wasn’t part of the tour) had to be the personal residence of artist Susan Wick!

Jennifer Newman designs products of timeless simplicity that can be customized to sit harmoneously with architect designed buildings and landscapes. The modern outdoor furniture would fit nicely in anyones backyard garden.

Swede Maria Westerberg has an Architecture and Furniture Design studio in Stockholm. She creates individual pieces incorporating recycled elements as well as specially commissioned projects. At the Stockholm Furniture fair  2011, her T-shirt chair received first price in the Green Furniture award.

Skate Study House is inspired by the 1950′s and recycling.  Skateboarders Pierre Andre Senizergues and Gil Le Bon De Lapointe gave birth to a concept of contemporary skateboard furnishings for your home. SSH produces true to the 50′s designs combined with skatboarding accesories–bright color skate wheels on clocks, symmetrical coffee tables make of decks and skateboard cut-out room dividers.

With post industrial waste from a factory that produces parts for tractors and Nascar, Bevara Designs transforms these recycled materials, creating unique benches, and tables with negative space patterns.
