Aussie assemblage artist Brett Coelho has installations in New York‚ Sydney and Melbourne.

He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney and is represented in several prominent private Australian collections. A love of nature is at the heart of Bretts’ work. He is inspired by Rosalie Gascoigne and the boldness of aboriginal art, its’ sense of craft and humble simplicity. “I love spending days roaming around the countryside‚ bartering with local farmers and collecting objects whose color or texture interest me. This work is about celebrating the ordinary, finding beauty in the most unlikely of places”

Rosalie Gascoigne was a groundbreaking assemblage and junk artist from Auckland, New Zealand. During the many lonely years spent raising her three children in Australia, she entertained herself making natural assemblages, first via traditional flower arranging, later with the rigorous Japanese art form of Ikebana. Her work in this medium was outstanding, earning praise from Japanese master, and founder of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, Sofu Teshigahara.

By the 1960′s she began experimenting with scrap iron sculptures and later wooden boxed assemblages, all composed of materials she found while on scavenging expeditions near Canberra.

Quite an inspiration, her first serious exhibition was at Ann Lewis’s Gallery A in Paddington, Sydney, in 1974, when Gascoigne was 57. She was an instant success, and only four years later there was a survey of her work at the National Gallery of Victoria.

A true salvage artist, her works were made primarily of found materials: wood, iron, wire, feathers, road signs, drinks crates & galvanised tin.Typology was a focus for her work, cutting up and rearranging the lettering into new abstract grids.

Gascoigne worked vigorously into her 80s, with help from an assistant–traveling through Europe and Asia for shows. The Met in New York owns one of her smaller pieces. Unfortunately for the art world, she died in Canberra in 1999.

Amazing salvaged wood sculpture by artist Ron Van Der Ende of Rotterdam, Netherlands. His wall mounted bas-reliefs are completely constructed from found wood. Whenever possible, the original color and texture of the wood is utilized to form a sometimes photorealistic mosaic. The realism is further enhanced by the perspective built into the relief. Van der Ende uses his method to conjure up dark industrial and space age imagery.

A native of Chicago, Donald Lipski attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, then earned an MFA in ceramics from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. After teaching art at the University of Oklahoma from 1973 to 1977, he moved to New York.

Like the Dada artists of the 1910s and 1920s and the pop artists of the 1960s and 1970s, Lipski uses ordinary objects from daily life—things easily recognized but not necessarily having a single or specific intended meaning. He is best known for extensive arrangements of found objects on the white walls of galleries
