sheila odessey: recycled bags
Scavenger and upcycler Sheila Odessey creates eco-friendly bags and accessories from plastic bags. Since early 2009, the textile designer has developed chic, one−of−a−kind handbags, messenger bags, clutches and cosmetic cases for the environmentally conscious fashionista.
Once she learned that Americans throw away approximately 100 billion plastic bags each year and only 1% of them are recycled, she new she had to put reuse into action.
It costs more money to recycle a bag than to produce one, so there is no financial incentive to repurposing plastic. Her solution is turning trash into trendy textiles.
Available at White Saffron, a concept store dedicated to recycling, fair trade and an ethical working environments in manufacturing.
