rene geneva: ecouture
Rene Geneva began her eco fashion business after inheriting her grandmother's Singer sewing machine. Her first large contract job was by Entertain Fla., Inc to design and manufacture costumes for Universal Studio's parade performers. This inspired her to explore her design talents further, while committing to utilize organic materials and use fair trade labor.
In 2005, Geneva headed to Nicaragua to work with a fair wage, fair trade women's textile cooperative. Training them in the elements of corsetry and applique, she enabled them to produce her latest designs, and to expand their professional capabilities and fair trade income. Rene has since helped several communities in developing countries with artisan sewing skills.
