I am amazed by the custom made (by size of your pooch) domiciles from Sustainable Pet (they have bird houses too), made from Forest Stewardship Council certified lumber. They can last 8-10 years and are finished with a zero VOC paint and bee wax waterproofing.
The top of your hound palace is then planted with local vegetation for a beautiful doggie atmosphere. Stephanie Rubin the creator and landscape enthusiast has patented her designs which are $1000-6000.
